Couples Therapy in Albuquerque

couple therapyNothing improves a life like love—love is necessary—love is one of the very best parts about being human. But, love takes work.

Once a couple passes through its easiest, most effortless phases, then begins the real substance of the relationship—and then begins the work.

Here at the Attachment Healing Center, we are trained and experienced in helping couples heal and enhance their relationships. We understand the behaviors and the neuroscience of being in a couple, and can help you to have a relationship that is fulfilling and stimulating and more likely to make you happy.

Our approach to couples therapy is one that focuses on each individual in the relationship taking ownership of his or her feelings and actions. We focus on how each person in the relationship experiences the other.

Embedding Each Other

Our couples therapy techniques focus on the neuroscience of embedding each other. This means that when two people are in a relationship, each person takes the other’s personality into their own, and of course this can be negative or positive.

Every personality is, in a way, a collaborative community effort, and our couple’s therapy techniques recognize that and can help anyone wanting to improve their relationship.

Couples Dialogue

Communication between partners is essential to create emotional safety in the relationship.  We use several approaches like Harville Hendrix’s IMAGO couple’s dialog and HeartMath Coherent Communication to assist a couple in learning to listen to and connect with one another.

Both of these approaches work to have the neurons of the listening partner activate in a similar way to the speaking partner’s so that true empathy for the other’s perspective can be experienced by both. With empathy on both sides, the partners are able to genuinely experience what the partner is feeling.

Using these tools, you and your partner can feel visible, acknowledged, and safe.  These are ways to keep a relationship emotionally safe and healthy.
