HEALING FROM TRAUMA IN ALBUQUERQUE

HEALING EMOTIONAL TRAUMA

We would all like to get through life without experiencing any trauma—but few people ever do. Life is full of challenges and experiences, and all of these can leave scars on our hearts and can make life more difficult to live forever after.

Many people unfortunately experience abuse and neglect in their early lives, and these early experiences can affect a person indefinitely, in deeply negative ways.

Fortunately, thankfully, means exist to help heal from trauma. Healing emotional trauma can be difficult, it can take work, but it’s not impossible.

At the Attachment Healing Center, here in Albuquerque, we can assist you, your child, your children, or your family in healing from trauma.

COPING WITH TRAUMA

We have therapists trained in several modalities for treating and healing trauma. Those modalities are: EMDR, Trauma Resiliency Model, AEDP, and Narrative Therapy’s externalization. All of these approaches work in bringing about relief from trauma responses that may be stuck in the body.

We teach individuals to recognize and accept their responses to trauma and by normalizing and explaining these responses, the negative feelings attached to them can be set aside. We show individuals that their responses are simply the body attempting to find balance and to resolve any thwarted action.

Some of these tools, like Trauma Resiliency are based on ideas from legendary therapist Peter A. Levine- in particular his informed somatic approach and his ideas about the body holding harmful memories – there is hope for people in need of healing from trauma. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing was developed by Francine Shapiro. AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychchotherapy) was developed by Diana Fosha. Many of the approaches at the Attachment Healing Center designed for healing attachment as well as trauma are informed by Dr. Fosha’s incredible emotion focused work.

NON-VERBAL THERAPY TOOLS

We also use sand trays as a modality—helping children and adults to illustrate their mental landscapes using models and toys—to map and visualize their problems in an imaginative, three-dimensional way.

Based on the fact that we embed the other, sometimes talk therapy cannot get to the impact of the embedded other, like a non-verbal modality can. Given that the body remembers, it can be helpful to provide a method of treatment that allows the body to speak.
